Quedé: a study coach for the UNAM and IPN admission exams

Every year hundreds of thousands of people in Mexico take the admission exam for UNAM or IPN, the two biggest public universities in the country. And almost all of them prepare the same way: a video course, a PDF guide, a question bank, or a prep school that costs 4,000 to 13,000 pesos and moves at the same pace for everyone.

The thing is, the exam is a competition by number of correct answers. Spots go from the highest score down, per degree and per campus, and each subject weighs differently. What matters isn't finishing the syllabus, it's getting the most correct answers per hour you study.

That's the idea behind Quedé (Mexican Spanish for "I got in").

What is Quedé?

It's a personal coach for the exam. Every day it decides what you should practice to add the most points for your degree and your campus, and it asks you each topic again right before you'd forget it.

  • Diagnostic and score gap: you know your current score and how many more answers you need for your degree.
  • A daily plan of 15 to 30 minutes: you open the app and it already knows what's next.
  • Spaced repetition: it asks you things before you forget them, not after.
  • Official-style mock exams for the UNAM exam (120 questions) and the IPN exam (140).
  • An explanation for every option: not just why the right one is right, but why the one you picked isn't.
  • Xolo, an AI tutor (a xoloitzcuintle dog) you can ask about anything you didn't get.

Science, not promises

Most of each session is questions, not videos. There's a lot of evidence that pulling something out of your memory works way better than rereading it, even though rereading feels nicer. So Quedé measures what you can answer without help, not what percent of a course you watched.

I'm also not going to promise you'll get in. You earn the spot; what the app does is give you the best plan to get to exam day.

Free tools

Besides the app, the site has a bunch of free tools anyone can use without an account, like a score checker for your degree, a degree comparison tool, a study plan generator, and real data like UNAM's historical cutoff scores and IPN spots, with sources.

There's also a weekly summary for parents, so they know how things are going without hovering.

Pricing

It's free forever for the basics: diagnostic, one daily session, review cards and a quick mock exam each week. If you want everything unlimited there's the season pass for 899 pesos, one payment until your exam, or 199 pesos a month.

Get it

Quedé is at quede.app, on the App Store and on Google Play. It's in Spanish, since the exam is too.

If you're taking the exam (or know someone who is), try it and tell me what you think. Any mistake in a question or explanation is super helpful.
